SUMMER M.A. FOR THEATRE EDUCATORS

Please email Jessica Ferrarone at jferraro@central.uh.edu with further inquiries.

The Summer M.A. for Theatre Educators is an exciting and convenient path for busy theatre educators to accomplish a graduate degree over the course of 26 months (including 3 summers). The design of our curriculum includes updated pedagogical practices and experiential approaches to working with young people in areas like acting, directing, and design. Our renowned faculty are passionate about working with theatre educators. In addition to our innovative curriculum and dedicated instructors our students also have access to the many resources and amenities that University of Houston has to offer its graduate students.

One of the most exciting components of our program happens during the final week of study each summer. At the conclusion of our 3.5 weeks on-campus, we attend an off-site course, training with some of the most esteemed acting companies in the world. We see shows, take backstage tours, and attend talk-backs, to gather inspiration for the coming school year. Our off-site courses rotate each summer: Lincoln Center in NYC, Steppenwolf in Chicago, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Up to twelve theatre educators will be accepted each summer to begin their path toward a Master of Arts in Theatre. Classes run Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. for three and a half weeks, followed by one additional week off-site. Students have long weekends to study and explore the exciting arts community Houston has to offer. During the Spring and Fall semesters, students develop digital process-folios that document how they parlay the work from each summer into their own classrooms, design, and directing.
