GRADUATE ADMISSIONS
The priority deadline for domestic and international applicants is January 15th for fall admission. Applications received after that date will be considered if space is available.
Theatre Admissions
Acceptance into a program of study within the School of Theatre & Dance requires more than filling out the appropriate application(s):
Acting students must audition for program placement.
Design Technology students must submit portfolios for program placement.
ACTING
The University of Houston + Alley Theatre MFA Professional Actor Training Program attends the in-person auditions coordinated by the University/Regional Theatre Association (URTA), and holds callback interviews in each of those cities.
Candidates wishing to apply directly to the program may submit a headshot, resume, and a video audition, for the opportunity to be invited to a callback interview. Callback interviews will be held at multiple locations within the continental United States in January and February. While online/virtual auditions may be considered on a case-by-case basis, we prefer to meet auditioners in person whenever possible.
Video audition submission requirements:
Interested candidates are asked to submit their headshot, resume, and a link (YouTube, Vimeo, or comparable platform) for a video audition containing:
- Close-up framing (shoulders to the top of head) of a candidate offering their full name, the name of their undergraduate institution, and one other (optional) piece of personal information.
- Medium shot framing (thighs or midsection to top of head) of the candidate performing two contrasting monologues, showing their strengths and range as a performer.
Video submissions must be no more than 2 minutes, 30 seconds in length, and must be received by January 15 for priority consideration.
Video links may be sent directly to Adam Noble, Head of MFA Acting, at asnoble@central.uh.edu.
