Clinical Requirements
Specific clinical requirements must be completed before a student can start their clinical rotations. Applicants who are admitted to the Gessner College of Nursing are required to complete all Clinical Requirements (Policy S101) (link to Policy S101).
Applicants are encouraged to start completing clinical requirements before applying to expedite course registration if selected for admission.
Before applying, applicants can complete the following:
Titers: A titer is a laboratory test that measures the presence and amount of antibodies in blood.
If the test is positive (above a particular known value) the individual has immunity. If the test is negative (no immunity) or equivocal (not enough immunity) you will need to be vaccinated.
Applicants can request a titer from their PCP. The titer must include results for the following vaccines:
- Hepatitis C
- Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- Hepatitis B
If the titer shows a negative result for one of the above vaccines, the applicant is advised to start that vaccine series immediately.
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap): Submit documentation of a Tdap booster administered within the past 4 years. Tetanus (Td) is not acceptable for this requirement.
Tuberculosis (TB): One of the following is required:
- 1 Step TB Skin test
- QuantiFERON Gold Test
- T-SPOT Blood Test
If positive, applicants will submit a clear chest X-Ray if admitted. Renewal will be set for 2 years from the date of the chest X-Ray.
CPR Certification: The Gessner College of Nursing will accept one of the following:
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider
- Students who have a current American Heart Association CPR BLS Instructor card, may submit the card to satisfy the current CPR Healthcare Provider Card requirement.
Online CPR courses will not be accepted.
