5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for a special edition of Convergence Researching featuring Mitchell Center Visiting Artists Alex Julyan and Stephen Montague. AURA Contemporary Esemble will perform compositions by Luke Brinkley, Jordan Ellisor, Eric Estrada, Jackson Okland and Thane Wimberly. After the performance Mary Magsamen will moderate an artist discussion with Stephen Montague and Alex Julyan alongside faculty from the Moores School of Music and Gerald D. Hines Collge of Architecture and Design, as they discuss the process behind Call and Response.

Call and Response is a semester-long project exploring the integratation of auditory and visual space. Visual artist Alex Julyan and composer Stephen Montague join faculty and students in the Moores School of Music and the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture for a site-specific collaboration.

Convergence Research is a collaboration between the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts and the Blaffer Art Museum that supports students and faculty in the McGovern College of the Arts to explore connection and collaboration between the disciplines in the arts and beyond. It is a platform for experimentation and research with the goal of providing opportunities to push the boundaries of the artistic disciplines. Convergence Research promotes interdisciplinary inquiry and techniques to stimulate creative process and cultivate works that are performative, temporary and in any stage of process.

This season, Convergence Research is curated by Mitchell Center Graduate Assistant Anna Barr. The Graduate Assistantship is a yearlong position designed for a graduate student from one of the Mitchell Center’s five units.
