Delta Delta Chapter of Pharmaceutical Fraternity Wins Chapter of Year, Best Presentation Awards at Southwest Regional Meeting March 18-20
The Kappa Psi (KY) Pharmaceutical Fraternity's Delta Delta Chapter at UH College of Pharmacy secured the Chapter of the Year and Best Presentation awards at the organization's Southwest Province 2016 Spring Assembly March 18-20 in Houston.
The Chapter of the Year award recognizes the chapter with the most points in categories including leadership, activities, service and scholastic achievements in the 12 months between each spring meeting.
Service participation is a high priority in the national Kappa Psi co-ed fraternity. Through community health fairs in collaboration with nonprofit and corporate entities across the greater Houston area, Delta Delta chapter members provided hundreds of seasonal flu immunizations and cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure screenings as well as counseling on medication adherence and lifestyle modifications for better health.
Judges also consider the social side of each chapter's activities during the year as a way to build fellowship and camaraderie outside of the classroom and clinic. For its part, the Delta Delta chapter hosted potluck dinners, scavenger hunts, and intermural flag football games.
"From non-health related community service events, such as serving at the Houston Food Bank and helping refugees and their children acclimate to this city, to hosting health fairs, we were able to shine light onto the UH campus through our service and leadership," said KY Delta Delta Chapter President and third-year Pharm.D. student Stella Kim.
Chapter members produced a 5-minute video with student testimonials and footage from its events and activities over the past year. The chapter's winning video can be viewed on YouTube here.
Founded in 1963, the UHCOP Delta Delta chapter is one of 11 chapters in the Southwest Province. The national organization, which was founded in 1879, has in excess of 6,000 student members and 80,000 graduate members across more than 150 chapters in the U.S., Canada and the Bahamas.
