4 PHOP PhD Students Earn Travel Awards to Present Latest Research Findings at ISPOR Annual Meeting

May 14 — Four Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy Ph.D. students have received Student Travel Award to help offset their expenses for attending and presenting their research at the 2019 ISPOR Annual Meeting May 18-22 in New Orleans. 

The travel award recipients, their projects and presentation format are: 

Soumya Chikermane, "Stage Distribution at Diagnosis Of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and Geographic Variation in Survival" (poster) and "Examining The Association Between Provider Outreach and Patients’ Statin Refill Behavior For Patients Within a Medicare Advantage With Prescription Drug (MAPD) Coverage Population" (podium); 

Jagadesh Earla, Pharm.D., MBA, "Factors Associated With Prescribing Of Oral Disease Modifying Agents In Multiple Sclerosis" (podium), "Healthcare Expenditure Burden in Multiple Sclerosis- Marginal Costs Based on National Level Data" (poster), and "Comparison of Cost-Effectiveness Between Sacubitril/Valsartan and Valsartan with Enalapril in Heart Failure" (poster);

Benjamin Lewing, "Comparing Expenditure and Absenteeism for Extensive Users of Chiropractic Services Versus Non-Users- A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis" (poster); and

Abhishek Nair, "Opioid Prescription Drug Utilization in Children and Adolescents with Asthma" (poster).

ISPOR (formerly known by its original, full name of International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research) is considered the largest conference of the health outcomes reseach community. 

"This current semester I will be completing my dissertation proposal, using claims data to study hypotheses involving anti-diabetic treatments, and ISPOR will be the perfect opportunity to discuss that dissertation research with peers around the world as well as set up networking connections that may assist me in landing a future internship or employment," Lewing said.
