Paul Garza

Paul Garza (Music Theory) is a lecturer of music theory at the University of Houston. In addition to his duties at the University of Houston, he maintains a studio of approximately thirty low brass students throughout Houston and is bass trombonist with the Mid-Texas Symphony. Paul earned his Bachelor of Music degree in trombone at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and his Master of Music and D.M.A. degrees at the University of Houston. An active performer, Paul has performed with the Mid-Texas Symphony, the New World Symphony, and the San Antonio Symphony, among others. As a music theorist, he has presented lectures on musical gesture, semiotic analysis, and popular music analysis. His research focuses on building a theory of semiotic analysis that incorporates written music for brass instruments. At the University of Houston, Paul teaches courses in music theory, musical form, popular music, and jazz.
