Kathryn Caton
Lecturer of Musicology
Kathryn L. Caton (musicology) teaches Research Methods in Music, Graduate Music History Review, Popular Music of the Americas, Opera Literature, and Music History III: Twentieth Century Music. She received her Ph.D. in musicology and ethnomusicology from the University of Kentucky with a focus on twentieth-century and experimental opera. She has collaborated as dramaturge and musicologist for the developing University of Kentucky Opera Studio and has worked integrally with in the Special Collections and Rare Books Library at UK. Additionally, she holds a M.M. in voice performance from the University of Kentucky and a B.M. in voice performance from Concordia College, Minnesota, often appearing as a soloist for various local events. Her research interests include experimental opera and participatory art with interdisciplinary crossovers into social theory and media studies. Currently, she serves as the co-chair of the Society for American Music Experimental Music Interest Group and is working on her first book, Participatory Opera: Performing and Creating Audiences.
