Dr. Tejada is the author of art histories that include, National Camera: Photography and Mexico’s Image Environment (U Minnesota, 2009) and Celia Alvarez Muñoz (UCLA/CSRC; U Minnesota, 2009). He served as co-curator on the exhibitions Manuel Álvarez Bravo: Optical Parables at the J. Paul Getty Museum (2001), and Luis Gispert: Loud Image, at the Hood Museum of Dartmouth College (2004); and as a co-editor of the volume Modern Art in Africa, Asia and Latin America: An Introduction to Global Modernisms (2012). His writings appear frequently in journals and exhibition catalogs, among them Images of the Spirit: Photographs by Graciela Iturbide (Aperture, 1996); Now Dig This! Art & Black Los Angeles 1960-1980 (UCLA Hammer Museum, 2011) and Groups and Spaces in Mexico, Contemporary Art of the 90s: Licenciado Verdad (Mexico City, Ediciones MP, 2017)
Dr. Tejada specializes in modern Latin American and contemporary Latinx art. He worked in Mexico City (1987-1997) as an editor of Vuelta magazine, published by the late Nobel laureate Octavio Paz; and as executive editor of the journal Artes de México. An active participant in the Mexico City art scenes of the 1980s and 1990s, he combines experience in the visual and literary arts with creative writing and art history. His multifaceted cultural studies and creative activities have been recognized with numerous fellowships and grants including awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Fulbright Foundation, Creative Capital Warhol Foundation, Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, and The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. A poet, his books include Mirrors for Gold (Krupskaya, 2006), Exposition Park (Wesleyan, 2010), Full Foreground (Arizona, 2012), and Todo en el ahora (Libros Magenta, 2015) selected poems translated into Spanish.
