What is the Meet and Greet?: This event is for all Undergraduate Math Majors, including Mathematical Biology, Math Graduate students, Departmental Faculty and Staff. The purpose of this social is to create a pleasant and comfortable environment among faculty and students.
This year the Meet and Greet will be held in conjunction with the Pi Day Celebration event, hosted by our UH SIAM, UH AMS, UH PME organizations.
We have three speakers that will present at this event (2:30-3:30 p.m.). Some topics that may be discussed include:
- Which steps were taken to acquire their current positions?
- What was their process like and what was involved in their preparation to find a position?
- Which opportunities did they take advantage of that proved invaluable during the application process.
- Perspectives on “life beyond the degree”.
SPEAKERS:

He later manager a team that was responsible for the on-board executive software for the Space Station. The latter half of his career has been with Information Technology – mostly working a team that did (web-based) application development. He received his MS and PhD in Mathematics at the University of Houston. Dr. Muhm will share his experience and about how his math degree was essential to his career goals.
(2:50—3:10 p.m.) Dr. Aarti Jajoo is a Postdoctoral Associate working with the Molecular and Human Genetics/Hanchard Lab at Baylor College of Medicine. She received her PhD in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2011. Her professional interests include Epigenetics, Machine Learning, Optimization, Numerical Analysis, Morphometrics, Computational Anatomy. She is currently working on the project: Patterns of Correlated DNA Methylation in Sever Childhood Malnutrition (SCM).
(3:10—3:30 p.m.) Dr. Jeff Morgan, an Associate Provost for Education Innovation and Technology and Professor, here at the University of Houston, is responsible for assessing the effectiveness of different teaching modalities and identifying technologies to advance learning and teaching.
