I am an Associate Professor of the Department of Mathematics in the University of Houston. This upcoming summer I will run a two-week (July 18-29) Summer School targeting female high school students of grades 10-12 from across the Greater Houston metropolitan area who have a fairly high aptitude in math. For the last decade or so, considerable effort has been invested in researching and ensuring gender equity, and we are beginning to see the gratifying repercussions of this heightened awareness. At the same time, this increase in diversity has not yet resulted in a representation of women and minorities in mathematics programs at the rate or proportion one might expect. The proposed summer program is a step to support this pipeline.

The summer school will run from July 18-29, 2016, on the UH main campus (located at 4800 Calhoun Rd, Houston, 77204) and feature a selective program that includes:

• Presentations on remarkable women in mathematics;
• Discussions about job opportunities in mathematics and the closely related fields;
• Introduction of high school students to the undergraduate program in mathematics in a
   university;
• Mini-course on "What I Wish I Knew About Math In High School";
• Mini-courses on exciting topics in elementary math that should be of interest to advanced high
   school students.

It is also very important that this program is free to all participating students.
