Ji Yeon Lee
Associate Professor of Music Theory
Ji Yeon Lee received her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (2018), and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Seoul National University. She also studied at the University of Munich under the auspices of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Her primary research area is analysis of opera from the Romantic to the present era, with an emphasis on German and Italian repertoire, climax and highpoint, visualization of music, and East Asian composers. Her publication includes articles and book chapters on the operas by Wagner, Puccini and verismo composers, and Korean music and musicians including Unsuk Chin, Isang Yun, and pansori. She is currently working on a book project on climaxes in verismo opera. Before joining the University of Houston, she taught at the City University of New York’s Hunter College, City College, and York College.
