Kenneth Hodgkinson, who received an Ed.D. and M.Ed. in administration and supervision in 2001 and 2010, respectively, was named principal of the new Humble Independent School District middle school in Atascocita in November. The yet-to-be-named school is scheduled to open in fall 2018.

Freddie Titus, who received an Ed.D. in curriculum & instruction in 2010, was honored as Lamar University’s 2017 Julie & Ben Rogers Community Service Award recipient in December. He is an assistant professor of teacher education in the College of Education and Human Development at Lamar University in Beaumont.

Amy Rice, who received an M.Ed. in higher education in 2016, accepted a position as an independent educational consultant for Estrela Consulting in December. She was chosen after a lengthy interview process and will offer a personalized approach to the college and school planning process for students across the United States and abroad.

Paul Donaldson, who received a Ph.D. in measurement, quantitative methods, and learning sciences in 2017, was appointed interim assistant provost for compliance, analytics and records at Northshore Technical Community College in December.

Gary Henry, immediate past president of the UH College of Education Alumni Board, was recognized as Region 4 TESPAN of the Year by the Texas Elementary Supervisors and Principals Association in August. The award recognizes members who are “committed to advancing the principalship and the association, as well as serving as a voice for Texas students.” Henry, a former Valley Oaks Elementary principal, now serves as director of talent and support at the Spring Branch Independent School District. He received a B.S. in physical education from the College in 1988 and is pursuing an Ed.D. in professional leadership – special populations here.

Donna Clark, a doctoral student in the professional leadership – K-12 program, received a travel fellowship to attend and present her research at the University Council for Educational Administration 2017 Annual Convention in Denver in November. Clark also met policy researchers from around the nation, received mentoring and learned about grant writing, publishing as a student and pursuing tenure.
